KAVI POST-DOC SCIENTIST (immunology or Molecular Biology) in Kenya| Feb 12 Deadline

KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research (KAVI-ICR), University of Nairobi, is seeking to recruit a highly motivated early career postdoctoral scientist. The areas of research will entail translational HIV B-cell immunology work that will include characterization of B cells and
isolation/characterization of novel anti-HIV monoclonal antibodies.

(KAVI-ICR) – AD/1/17/21 (1 POST) (CHS)


Key Responsibilities

i) Fluorescence-activated cell sorting on relevant B cells from PBMCs

ii) Molecular biology techniques such as amplification, sequencing and analysing immunoglobulin genes

iii) Preparation of libraries for Next-Generation sequencing

iv) Generation of recombinant monoclonal antibodies and antigens

v) Performance of neutralization assays

vi) Basic bioinformatics analyses on Next-Generation sequencing data

vii) Technology transfer between partners and collaborators

viii)Training and supervision of technicians and interns

ix) Presentation of results to the group, programme and network

x) Preparation of scientific manuscripts

xi) Any other responsibilities that may arise from time to time

Required Academic Qualifications

i) PhD degree in immunology, molecular biology or related fields

ii) Proven track record in immunology and/or molecular biology laboratory research

iii) Detailed knowledge of the procedures relevant to the work will be an added advantage

Competencies

i) High level of English language competence appropriate for scientific journal article submissions

ii) Good communication skills

iii) Self-directed, highly motivated, adaptable and capable of adhering to important milestones

Terms of appointment


This a one year contract renewable by mutual consent. The salary is negotiable depending on the
level of education and work experience.
